John Roil

Yesterday John Roil came into our class and told us how to survive in the bush.He also told us how to prepare for a tramp and stay safe. He has been in the army.

Rules
Before you leave to go on a hike, go camping or hunting it is better to tell someone where you are going and when you will be back. Always take a first aid kit.
Before you leave check the weather and the cloths you are taking. Good broken in shoes are also a good idea so they prevent blisters from turning up.

Equipment
When you  are getting your pack ready check through all of you gear and make sure it is in good condition. make sure you have packed water and food as well. Take things like a water bottle, warm thermals and other warm clothes and pants. when you pack your things it is a good idea to pack them inside resealable bags.

When you think you are ready to go but you don’t exactly know where you are  going and you get los don follow a river, creek or a stream do the STAR drill S=stop, T=think, A=asses R=respond. also in the bush there are a couple of poisonous plants such as Stinging nettle and bushmans lawer.

Training
When you have new shoes for tramping it is good if you break them in and train hard. When you go camp you will see why you needed to train hard and break in your shoes. If you go camp or tramping and you don’t train you will not know your limits.

So before you leave remember to tell someone where you are going and when you will be coming back.
